Interface for previewing printed maps

The print map view opens with a live preview of your map on the right and a settings panel on the left.

Choosing a paper size and orientation

Select your preferred paper size from the Paper Size dropdown:

  • Letter (8.5 × 11 in)
  • Legal (8.5 × 14 in)
  • Tabloid (11 × 17 in)
  • A4 (210 × 297 mm)
  • A3 (297 × 420 mm)

Toggle between Portrait and Landscape orientation using the buttons below the paper size selector.

Setting the title and units

Enter a custom Title for your map — by default it uses your route’s name.

Use the Units selector to choose how distances and elevations are displayed:

  • Imperial (mi, ft)
  • Metric (km, m)
  • UK (mi, m)
  • Nautical (nmi, ft)

Map features

Elevation graph

Enable the Elevation Graph toggle to include an elevation profile along the bottom of your map.

When the elevation graph is enabled, two additional options appear:

  • Color-coded Climbs — shades the elevation profile to highlight ascents and descents
  • Waypoints — marks your waypoints on the elevation graph (only available if your route has waypoints)

Coordinates and grid

Enable Coordinates to add coordinate tick marks along the edges of your map. Once enabled, choose your preferred coordinate format from the dropdown:

  • DMS — Degrees, Minutes, Seconds
  • Decimal — Decimal degrees
  • UTM — Universal Transverse Mercator
  • MGRS — Military Grid Reference System
  • OSGB — British National Grid

Enable Gridlines to overlay a coordinate grid across the entire map.

What’s included in every print

Every printed map automatically includes:

  • Route title, distance, and elevation gain in the footer
  • Scale bars in both miles and kilometers
  • QR code linking back to the route in Footpath
  • Declination diagram showing the relationship between true north and magnetic north

Adjusting the map view

Pan and zoom the map preview to frame your route exactly how you want it. Use the zoom controls in the lower right of the preview area, or pinch and scroll directly on the map.

To switch map styles or add overlays, tap the Map Settings button (gear icon) in the lower right.
